Literature refers to an artistic representation of the essence of social reality using words spoken or written in an imaginative way.for instance using figures of speech fiction and non-fiction .
TYPES OF LITERATURE
1)Oral literature This includes ballads,myth,jokes,folk tales and fables

b)Myth; A story originated in ancient times especially one concerning the early history of people
c)Ballads
2) Written literature: Normally found in written form eg.Novels,poetry,plays, drama and non fictional literature.
a) A novel;;an event story in PROSE long enough to fill complete books.
b)Play/Drama ; A literal work written to be performed by actors or actresses
TYPES OF PLAY/DRAMA
1. COMEDY. This is an amusing play.In comedy the main character is not a good person eg,NGOSWE,PENZI KITOVU CHA UZEMBE is an example of a comedy.
2.TRAGEDY.Thisvis the play which has a sad ending. This is because the main character is a good person but he/she faces many problems so in a hero eg.DEATH OF A SALES MAN by Arthur Miller, KINJEKITILE.
3.Poetry.a brief verse conveying deep feelings
4.Non-fiction this describes literal work that is not imagined eg ARUSHA DECLARATION
5.Fiction This describes imaginary events eg novels,riddles,proverbs
